Jan Welcome Week

Tuesday 22nd January – The Sheffield Vulcans will be at our regular home of Endcliffe Park at 7pm for our weekly training session. We provide all the equipment, we just ask you to wear something sporty (boots optional) and show enthusiasm as we go back to the basics of Rugby and welcome all the new members into the wonderful egg-shaped sport.

Thursday 24th January – We’ll be meeting at 7pm again at Endcliffe Park for another training session. Don’t worry, we’d never make you do something that we wouldn’t want to do, but we’ve got activities planned for everyone regardless of how much experience you have.

Friday 25th January – Join in as the Sheffield Vulcans take over the City Centre and visit our nightlife sponsors. We’ll have fun and get to know all our new friends joining the team with Karaoke, drinks and answering any questions you have.

Sunday 27th January – We’ll wrap up the week with a bright and early training session at Endcliffe Park on Sunday at 11am. We’ll be able to use more space, natural light, and show even more people how fun rugby can be, and how it can help with fitness, skill and confidence.

Vulcans get full IGR membership!

Sheffield Vulcans are THRILLED to announce that we have been granted full membership to International Gay Rugby.

Since launching in August 2017, the Vulcans have had a superb first season as a club and recruited nearly 20 regular players. Working with coach Andrea Dobson and taking advice from other IGR clubs across the UK, the team have enjoyed weekly training sessions, insane socials and nights out, and the chance to bare all in a naked photoshoot to raise money for Balls to Cancer.

The criteria met for full IGR membership are:

    • Be a primarily gay and / or lesbian identifying rugby club;
    • Support the aims and objectives of IGR;
    • Have a formalised governance structure with constitution and elected officers and have statements related to tolerance and inclusion in their club mission statement;
    • Be registered with their National and Local Rugby unions;
    • Have played at least 3 15s rugby matches in their current or most recent rugby season.

We have met all these measures and we cannot wait to continue our experiences with the IGR.

Sheffield Vulcans Debut New Kit

The Sheffield Vulcans are proud to officially reveal images of our brand new kit, provided by SRG Elite.

Just at the end of the Vulcan’s maiden season, the kit arrived and will be donned by members of the club showcasing the official colours of black, red, and flame logo.

To really show off the new strip, the Sheffield Vulcans took to the streets and landmarks of Sheffield in a photoshoot with our latest sponsor Heather Isobel Photography.

Take a look at some of our favourite photos from the shoot and keep an eye out over the summer and next season for the kit to be in use on the field.

Let us know what you think of our kit using #SheffVulcans and keep an eye out for more photos across our facebook, twitter, and instagram.

Sheffield Vulcans bare all to raise money for cancer charities.

Players of Sheffield Vulcans RUFC stripped off on Saturday 14th April to take part in a naked photo shoot to raise awareness about testicular cancer and inclusive rugby.

Sheffield Vulcans are one of six rugby teams across the UK that will be included in The Naked Rugby Players Calendar 2019. Later in the year, the calendar will be available to purchase and the money will go to supporting the inclusive rugby clubs involved and ‘Balls to Cancer’, a charity aiming to increase awareness and provide information for men to check themselves for symptoms of testicluar cancer.

During a shoot lasting around four hours, nine players of Sheffield Vulcans were brave enough to bare all for a series of photos inspired by renaissance art. Scenes such as ‘the creation of Adam’ take on a new tone as the players appear in the nude and incorporate rugby balls and equipment.

Craig, a Vulcans Prop, said It was quite nerve-wracking at the start but later on felt kind of liberating and definitely a good team bonding experience! There’s kind of not much to feel awkward about with a group of people when you’ve just been stood naked with them”

Sheffield Vulcans RUFC give thanks to Sheffield Hallamshire RUFC for offering the use of their clubhouse for the photoshoot and we look forward to visiting your ground in Crookes again soon!

Photographer Monty McKinnen said, “I have so much admiration for these guys who bared all for charity. 200,000 men are diagnosed with cancer every year. 80,000 of those will die from their cancer.

“It’s time we got to grips and get a hand on the situation. I hope this calendar empowers guys to check their packages more often and to feel comfortable talking about male cancers.”

The Naked Rugby Players Calendar is published by Diverse Publishing Ltd. For more information visit www.thenakedrugbyplayers.com

Balls To Cancer is a registered charity in the UK. Set up in 2011, Balls To Cancer supports sufferers and families dealing with cancer as well promoting awareness of cancer. More information can be found on their website at – www.ballstocancer.co.uk
